St. Paul’s Union Chapel in Waldoboro is pleased to welcome back cellist April Reed-Cox on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of Bach, improvisations, and a short set for voice and cello. The chapel is located at 1075 Dutch Neck Road, Waldoboro.
Reed-Cox began playing cello at the age of 4. She studied for 12 years using the Suzuki method, and entered college at 16 as a performance major. Reed-Cox holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in cello performance from Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C.
As a cellist, Reed-Cox has competed across the United States, and has performed with symphonies in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. She moved to Maine to be with family and now performs with Maine Pro Musica, the Bangor Symphony, the Ale House String Band, Putnam Smith, Heather Hardy, Emily Mure, and numerous other folk artists and groups.
Reed-Cox melds classical and folk playing techniques to create a unique sound in all genres. She lives on a small fiber farm in Waldoboro with her son, husband, and an ever-fluctuating number of chickens.
St. Paul’s Union Chapel is a historic chapel built in 1865 as a nondenominational place of worship. The chapel has recently been renovated and is being used as a venue for a variety of community activities. The suggested donation for this event is $10.
