One only has to venture down School Street in Damariscotta a short distance off Main Street to see the work of mixed media artist Lyndon Delano. His work can be viewed at two venues on the street, in fact. Delano currently has an art show up at Shapers Fitness Gym, which runs through the month of August. He also recently started a small gallery at his home, across the street from Shapers.
Delano, who makes hand-painted Christmas ornaments in addition to his framed artwork, employs acrylic, oil, and watercolor paints, along with artist-quality markers, to create her pieces. His nicely executed framed work, which is what can be viewed at Shapers, focuses on such creatures as fish and birds, as well as iconic Maine landscape scenes and flowers. A number of his framed pieces on display at Shapers are modestly priced reproductions of his work.
“One of my grandfathers was a designer and builder of pleasure boats, and I believe that his talent was passed on to me,” Delano wrote in an artist statement.
Delano has created art part time for more than 40 years, and recently began working as an artist full time.
Delano, who has participated in “many Maine arts and crafts shows,” has an exhibit coming up in October at Chapman & Chapman Insurance in Damariscotta and his ornaments will be available for purchase during the holiday season. He can be reached by emailing lmdelano@tidewater.net.
Shapers Fitness Gym is located at 90 School St. in Damariscotta, and can be reached by phone at 563-3030.
