With the arrival of the 2009 holiday season just around the corner, the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District is once again proud to be teaming up with the annual Toys for Tots Campaign to give back to the community it represents.
Toys for Tots has been collecting and delivering toys for children since 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks USMCR and a group of Marine Reservists collected and distributed 5000 toys to needy children.
Since its inception, the organization has collected almost 20 million toys, which have been delivered to approximately eight million children.
In 2008, over 100 toys were donated by the district to the Toys for Tots campaign helping make a difference in a child’s life and ensuring their families had a brighter Holiday Season.
This year, with the public’s kindness and generosity, the Knox-Lincoln SWCD Supervisors and staff will again help Toys for Tots distribute toys to needy children in Maine.
The Knox-Lincoln SWCD office is conveniently located at 191 Camden Rd. (Rt. 90) in Warren. Contributions will be accepted during the regular business hours Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please note toy guns and weapons cannot be accepted.
A donation of a new unwrapped toy (in its original packaging) to the 2009 Toys for Tots Campaign will help relieve some of the pressure and tension felt by friends and neighbors during these harsh economic times.
For more information on making donations, please contact Knox-Lincoln SWCD District Office Manager Katherine Ward at 273-2005. For more information on how to contribute, please visit www.toysfortots.org.
