A Jefferson man wearing a firearm allegedly confronted a crew of construction workers Monday afternoon, leading to his arrest after a standoff with police.
When police arrived at approximately 2:30 p.m. the suspect, 34-year-old John Burbank, retreated to a residence located at 288 Goose Hill Road in Jefferson and refused requests by the officers to come out, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies from the LCSO, the Maine Warden Service and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency surrounded the residence, while they negotiated with Burbank for approximately 45 minutes before the incident was resolved without violence, according to the LCSO.
Burbank was arrested and charged with the felony crime of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and the civil offense of creating a police standoff, according to the LCSO.
There was no information at the time of this posting whether Burbank is alleged to have brandished the firearm or threatened verbally to use it, or whether the weapon remained secure in a holster or some other device during the incident.
Officers subsequently obtained a search warrant for the residence and found several weapons, including a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun inside his home. Burbank was being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset at the time of this posting.
