An Alna man who sustained a head injury as the “accidental result” of a fatal, self-inflicted gunshot to a woman in Alna Saturday, Nov. 22 is out of the hospital.
A.J. Lang had been in “serious, but stable” condition Saturday afternoon, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. He was released late Sunday or early Monday and returned home, Lt. Michael Murphy said Monday, Nov. 24.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and first responders from Alna and Wiscasset received a call at 7:17 a.m. Nov. 22 to respond to a residence on the West Alna Road for a report of a woman with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
The emergency personnel found Laura Ezzell-Travis, 23, deceased and Lang, 22, suffering from a head injury. Lang was transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Investigators determined that Ezzell-Travis died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while Lang’s injury was an “accidental result” of the gunshot, Murphy said.
Maine State Police detectives and evidence technicians are assisting the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation. Investigators were clear from the scene shortly after 2 p.m.
Lang’s father owns the residence. Lang lives there and Ezzell-Travis, his girlfriend, was staying there, Murphy said.
