Numerous communities in Lincoln County were challenged earlier today by a torrential, albeit, balmy rainstorm that dumped considerable inches from the sky, and combined with an astronomical high tide, caused the Damariscotta River to overflow its banks.
In Damariscotta, the municipal parking lot was underwater as storm drains failed to keep up with the double water whammy of rain and tide. Additionally, the river rose to just a few feet below the Damariscotta-Newcastle Bridge.
In Damariscotta Mills, the fish ladder overflowed its banks completely submerging the small parking lot at the Alewife Fish Ladder Restoration building. Also in the mills, geese happily paddled on flooded riverfront lawns.
CMP Spokesperson Gail Rice said at the height of the wind/rain storm around 11 a.m., 2800 customers in Lincoln County suffered power outages. “Everyone was back up though around 2 or 3 p.m.,” she said.
