A grand jury indicted a Boothbay man on several charges Sept. 8, including aggravated assault against an emergency medical care provider and domestic violence assault.
William Spear, 49, was arrested May 26 in Boothbay Harbor after he allegedly drove to a woman’s house and fell out of the car onto the ground, according to an affidavit by Boothbay Harbor Police Sgt. Patrick Higgins.
The woman told police the vehicle had been involved in a crash.
The woman alleged Spear got up, went into her house, shoved her in the chest, and fell onto the floor of the kitchen, Higgins said in the affidavit.
Spear was incoherent when Higgins arrived at the home, and “picked up [nasal] spray and tried dialing it and talking into it,” Higgins said.
The grand jury indicted Spear on both aggravated assault, a class B felony, and assault, a class C felony, against an emergency medical care provider and three class D misdemeanors: domestic violence assault, criminal OUI, and refusing to submit to arrest.
Spear was tested as having an alcohol level of 0.15 grams or more of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood of 210 liters of breath, according to the indictment.
Spear has “been actively pursuing” an intensive alcohol and drug treatment program, according to a July 30 motion on file with the court.
Spear’s attorney, Edward Dardis, declined to comment on the case.
Spear is due in Lincoln County Superior Court Thursday, Sept. 25 at 8:30 a.m. for arraignment on the charges.
