A Dead River oil truck rolled over on its side on North Newcastle Road today, at approximately 12:45 p.m.
Oil is leaking from the truck, according to reports from the scene, and Newcastle Fire Chief Clayton Huntley has requested sand and absorbent pads to deal with the spill.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies on scene estimate that North Newcastle Road in the area of Highland Road will be closed for several hours.
At 1:10 p.m., the site was declared a hazardous materials spill with an estimated 25 to 30 gallons on the ground at that time.
Emergency Management Agency Director Tim Pellerin is reported enroute to the scene. The Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection is also being notified.
Officials on site expect the road to be closed for the duration of the event, at least several hours, and also report the driver is unhurt.
