The driver of a Jeep Cherokee sustained minor injuries after his car slid off the Bunker Hill Road in Newcastle on Tuesday. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the 9-1-1 call came in at 1:39 p.m. on Dec. 23, reporting a minor injury.
Peter Brown, 23, of Jefferson did not need medical transport even though an ambulance had been called, according to LCSO Dep. Peter Kenyon.
Brown was traveling south on the Bunker Hill Road (Rt. 213) when he lost control on the packed snow and sanded roadway, striking a tree.
“The airbag deployed and he got a bloody nose,” Kenyon said, adding that speed was a factor in the accident.
Kenyon said the accident would have been more significant had the driver not run into a tree. The vehicle could have rolled down the steep embankment along that particular section of the Bunker Hill Road, had it not hit the tree. The Newcastle Fire Dept. and Lincoln County Emergency Medical Service also responded to the call.
Kenyon has responded to several accidents in Jefferson and Boothbay due to road conditions and other factors including speed.
Reporting from Boothbay on Dec. 24, Kenyon said he had been responding to accidents in that area. He had responded to a head-on collision on Rt. 17 in Jefferson on Dec. 24, where one driver failed to yield for another. There were no injuries from this accident, he said.
“Not only is this the holiday season, but also the snow and slush season,” Kenyon said, adding he would like people to drive according to the conditions on the road. “The life you save may be your own.”
