A small brush fire ignited on East Pond Road in Jefferson at around 3 p.m. on May 1. About a third of an acre burned. Jefferson Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire unassisted, said Jefferson Fire Chief Walter Morris.
“We were all at the station preparing for a bean supper that night,” Morris said. “So we were on scene quickly and put the fire out.”
No one was injured and no structures were threatened by the fire.
Two men in their late teens or early 20s reported the fire, but didn’t see anyone or anything that might have started it, Morris said. The Maine Forest Service was called in to investigate.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and is still under investigation, said District Ranger Matt Gomes with the Maine Forest Service.
