In a special meeting June 23, the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen set Tues., Aug. 9 as the date for a run-off election between incumbent Dick McLean and challenger Josh Pinkham.
The polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Damariscotta Municipal Building.
McLean, the board chairman, and Pinkham, a two-term former selectman, tied in the town meeting vote June 14. They are contesting a three-year term on the board.
In the three-way race for two open board seats, the original tally had incumbent Vicki Pinkham reelected with 235 votes, followed by McLean with 232 and Josh Pinkham with 229.
A June 20 recount revealed an even closer vote.
Vicki Pinkham remained on top with 233 votes. McLean and Pinkham tied with 232 votes each.
Eric Conrad, a Maine Municipal Association spokesman, said the candidate with the highest vote tally, in this case Vicki Pinkham, has won election to one seat.
McLean, as the incumbent, will retain his seat until the town holds a run-off election, Conrad said. The town must wait at least 45 days to hold the run-off election.
