Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett confirmed Wednesday that Deputy Henry Grenier is still on “leave.”
“There is no change in his status. He is still under administrative leave with pay,” said the sheriff when reached at a corrections meeting in Augusta.
“I am the sheriff, and an open investigation is still under way,” Brackett said.
Tuesday, Wiscasset Police Lt. John Allen, the town’s acting police chief, asked the selectmen to confirm his request to hire Grenier.
Following Allen’s recommendation, the Wiscasset Selectmen hired Grenier as a reserve police officer Tuesday. (See related Wiscasset Board of Selectman story this issue, The Lincoln County News.)
Allen could not be reached for comment at press time.
Sheriff Todd Brackett said in a written statement issued in August: “Deputy Henry Grenier has been placed on administrative leave with pay for a “non-work related” incident currently being investigated by the Maine State Police.”
Brackett said he took that action pending the outcome of the state’s probe.
Kate Simmons, a spokesman for the Maine Attorney General, who earlier confirmed the state probe, declined comment Wednesday.
She referred calls concerning the Grenier investigation to Brackett.
