The Twin Villages Downtown Alliance will host a public “informational session” about Damariscotta law enforcement at the Skidompha Library Wed., Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
The forum will focus on a proposal by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, made at the request of Damariscotta’s town government, to provide police services in place of the existing Damariscotta Police Department.
The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen have proposed an amendment to the town charter that would allow the selectmen to close the department and contract with the county instead.
Damariscotta Police Chief Chad Andrews, Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett and Damariscotta Town Manager Matt Lutkus will speak and participate in a question and answer period.
Lutkus asked the alliance to help plan and facilitate the event as a way to reach out to local businesses and building owners.
Twin Villages Downtown Alliance President Mary Kate Reny said the event will provide an excellent opportunity for all residents to better understand the town’s thought process and the data the town considered when it proposed the charter amendment.
The alliance “has no intent of taking a position, but is primarily interested in working with town officials in a way that ensures all available and pertinent information on such an important public policy decision is shared and adequately understood,” according to Reny.
