Edgecomb Fire Department performed a controlled burn of an unsafe building on Oct. 6, said Fire Chief Roy Potter.
The property, which was on Rt. 1, had been owned by the town for a number of years, Potter said. The house was falling in, so the town got the resident out of the home and sold the property, he said.
The controlled burn was a service to the new property owner, Potter said.
In its condition, the building was “a huge hazard for the town,” Potter said.
Eight firefighters were on scene with three trucks, Potter said. Two of the trucks were actively pumping to control the fire, and the third was on location to respond to other calls, he said.
The event was a good opportunity to get the trucks out and do some training, Potter said. “Anytime you can get out and do any training with fire is a perfect opportunity for firefighters,” he said.
