School officials awarded a roofing project at Nobleboro Central School to Williams Roofing out of Brewer for $105,629 on June 21.
Last month, officials opened two bids for the project. The other bid came from Kevin W. Smith and Son out of Gorham for $239,000. The project was not awarded when the bids were opened, to give time for both proposals to be sent to Woodard & Curran, the engineering firm that designed the project, for evaluation and reference checks, according to AOS 93 Supt. Bob Bouchard.
At their Annual Town Meeting, Nobleboro voters approved $175,000 with an option to borrow up to an additional $200,000.
The total cost of project will be more than the cost of the roofing, as there is about a $10,000 cost for engineering and project review. Some ceilings, which were damaged from leaks in the roof, will also be repaired for “no more than” about $15,000, Bouchard said.
The roofing project includes replacing all of the shingles and the flat roof over the library. Some of the decking will likely need to be repaired if it is damaged. All of the soffits and fascia will be replaced and ice shield will be installed.
The building is 20 years old, and the roof “had reached the end of its life,” Bouchard said.
