A driver who refused medical transport sustained a few cuts on her arms after rolling her car over on the Bunker Hill Rd. in Jefferson Monday morning.
Sheryl Hooper of Jefferson lost control of her 2001 Honda CRV after reaching for a water bottle following the scenic Damariscotta Lake overlook across from the Bunker Hill Baptist Church.
Hooper overcorrected her turn after losing control in the southbound lane, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Deputy Brian Collamore. The car overturned and landed in the ditch on the downhill slope.
Collamore said the emergency 911 call was reported at 10:34 a.m. LCSO and Jefferson Fire and Rescue units responded.
Holding a cup of water, Hooper quietly said she was okay. The car, whose engine hood and front windshield mashed in, looked like it was beyond repair. Local first responders said they thought it might be totaled.
Jefferson resident Jason Simonds said this is the second accident to take place in front of his home in the past few weeks. The last accident occurred because the driver was text messaging on his cell phone, he said.
“It’s easy to do,” he said, referring to motorists getting distracted.
