Nobleboro Fire Chief Mike Martin is retiring after 12 years of service.
Martin is stepping down because he’s moving to Southport, and said he’s looking forward to a short break.
“Once you have it in your blood, it’s hard to get away,” Martin said.
But after 30 years of volunteer firefighting with the Damariscotta and Nobleboro fire departments, the break is well deserved.
He expects to take a three to four month hiatus from saving lives and property before joining up with the department in Southport.
During his tenure as chief, Martin secured almost $250,000 in grants for the fire department and $25,000 for the town of Nobleboro. He oversaw the start of the local Toys for Tots program.
“I’d like to thank everyone for all their support over these 12 years,” Martin said. “And for giving me the opportunity to serve the department and the town.”
