The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Jefferson man in Jefferson this morning.
According to a statement from the LCSO, Robert Lawrence, 73, of Jefferson was pronounced dead at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta following the two vehicle collision at the intersection of Rt. 32 and East Pond Road around 9:26 a.m.
According to the LCSO, the accident investigation thus far indicates Johnnie James, 19, of Nobleboro, was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu on the East Pond Road when he failed to stop at the intersection of Rt. 32.
At this same time, Lawrence was operating his 2002 Jeep Cherokee on Rt. 32. The James’ vehicle struck the Lawrence vehicle causing the Lawrence vehicle to leave the roadway, strike a tree and flip onto its side before coming to rest.
James was not injured in the crash.
Units from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Fire Department and Waldoboro EMS responded to the scene. Maine State Police are performing the accident reconstruction.
Lawrence was transported from the scene by ambulance.
The investigation continues at this time.
