Senator David Trahan (R-Lincoln County) has been appointed to the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IFW) and the Government Oversight Committee (OPEGA) for the 124th Maine Legislature.
“I am pleased to have been appointed to the IFW Committee and I am prepared, as the committee’s lead Senate Republican, to meet the challenges we face as a state with a strong voice for Lincoln County and common sense for Maine.
“I am also thrilled to return to OPEGA. In this time of economic uncertainty and state budgets that are in need of efficiency, the work of OPEGA is needed now more than ever,” Sen. Trahan said.
As Senate Republican Lead on the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee, Sen. Trahan will continue to bring his trademark energy and passion to the issues important to Maine’s sportsmen.
Additionally, as one who led the effort to create OPEGA during his years in the House of Representatives, he will be a pivotal player in ensuring its continued effectiveness as a member of the Government Oversight Committee,” said Senate Republican Leader Kevin Raye, of Washington County, who recommended Trahan for both positions.
The Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee is responsible for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife; including hunting, fishing, trapping, recreational and hunter safety, fisheries and wildlife research, fish hatcheries, wardens, licensing, ATVs, snowmobiles, boat registration, and whitewater rafting.
