A small SUV rear-ended a dump truck at the corner of Bristol Road and Poor Farm Road in Bristol at 1:12 p.m., Tuesday, May 13.
Lt. Rand Maker, of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, said Rita L. Blanc, 33, of South Bristol, was driving a 1990 Ford Bronco II XLT north on Bristol Road.
Meanwhile, Nancy L. Nolet, 47, of Westport Island, was driving a 2000 Volvo dump truck north on Bristol Road. Nolet stopped to make a lefthand turn into a place of business of Bristol contractor O.W. Holmes Inc., which owns the truck.
Blanc “basically failed to observe the truck had stopped and ran into the back end of it,” Maker said. The collision totaled the Bronco, which was wedged between the body and tires of the dump truck. “The damage to the dump truck was minimal,” Maker said.
Blanc was transported to the Miles campus of LincolnHealth with a complaint of back pain. A small child and a dog who were passengers in the Blanc vehicle were not injured.
Blanc was wearing a seat belt and the child was properly secured in a child safety seat, Maker said. Nolet was not injured.
The Bristol Fire Department, the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident. Firefighters shut down one lane of traffic until the vehicles could be removed.
Note: A previous version of this article referred to the incident as an apparent three-vehicle accident. The damaged Hyundai sedan at the scene was not involved in the accident. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office had stopped the vehicle because it was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident on School Street in Damariscotta.
