In partnership with Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center Master Gardener and 30-year beekeeper Jean Vose opens her pollinator and companion gardens for tours on Saturday, July 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Jean uses plants in her gardens to attract pollinators. Bees, beetles, birds, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds are targeted pollinators. In the vegetable garden, she uses the Companion Planting technique to not only attract pollinators but also repel unwanted insects while improving the harvest. On the 30th Jean will talk about the different types of bees and pollinators that help your fruit and flowers grow. The walking tour through the yard shows how to attract beneficial visitors using water, open areas, shelter areas and other techniques.
Garden plans and lists of plants are available for visitors. There is also information about honeybees and the Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers. A $10 free will donation in support of Coastal Center programs, activities and services would be appreciated. The tour takes place rain or shine.
