Albert C. Lester Jr., 81, of Westport Island, died peacefully May 26 in his sleep at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
He was born in Ossining, N.Y. on Oct. 22, 1931, a son of Albert C. and Jeanne (Tundrow) Lester Sr.
He attended New York schools and entered the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. On June 28, 1953 he married Janice F. Cromwell and they resided on Westport Island. Albert had many professions and worked most of his life as a carpenter, but truly loved working as a chef.
He was a member of the American Legion in Damariscotta and a volunteer for the Westport Island Fire Department. He also was a member of the Saint Philip’s Episcopal Church in Wiscasset.
Albert liked camping, dancing, playing solitaire on the computer and especially enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Glen Albert Lester in 1959; and sister, Jean Anderson.
He is survived by wife, Janice F. Lester of Westport Island; sons, Randy Lester of Boothbay and Danny Lester and wife Lori of Westport Island; sisters, Barbara Smith of Bath, Ruby Cole of Rockland and Helen Dugas and husband Larry of Rockport; grandchildren, Brandon Andrews, Randy Lee Lester, Ashley Lester, Danielle Lester, and Travis Lester; great-grandchildren, Brielle Lester and Ashlynn Andrews; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Sat., June 15 at the Cromwell Family cemetery on Westport Island.
