Alberta A. Sherman, 94, of Wiscasset, died peacefully on Sept. 13 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.
She was born in Damariscotta on May 13, 1913, a daughter of Leeman and Caroline E. (Hatch) Potter.
She was raised in Whitefield, attended school in Whitefield, and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1934. After she graduated, she worked at Superior Laundry in Wiscasset.
On May 20 1939, she married Stanton Sherman and they resided in Wiscasset.
During WWII, she volunteered for Civil Defense. After the war, she worked at Wiscasset Lumber Company as a bookkeeper until her daughter, Sally Ann, was born.
Alberta’s family was always her first priority; she was a devoted wife and mother. She also enjoyed spending time with her many friends.
She was an avid reader, and loved to knit and crochet. She volunteered for the Red Cross, and the Children’s Health Clinic.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanton A. Sherman, on June 17, 1999; brother, Alfred E. Potter; and sister, Martha Kaler.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally A. Sherman of Bristol; brother-in-law, Walter H. Sherman and wife Sally of Wiscasset; nieces, Jean Nevins and husband Jim of Manchester, and Nancy Roby and husband Wally of Wiscasset, and several other nieces and nephews.
Graveside service 1 p.m., Sat., Sept. 22 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Rumerrill Rd., Wiscasset.
