Alberta R. Cope, 81, of Dresden, passed away on Jan. 16 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
She was born in Bath on Nov. 21, 1936, the first daughter of five girls, to Albert R. and Gladys I. Richard.
Alberta grew up in Woolwich and attended and graduated from both The One Room School in Day’s Ferry and Morse High School in Bath, class of 1954. After graduating she was employed at W.T. Grants on Center St. in Bath.
The following year on February 14, she married her husband, Henry, and became a proud Navy wife, travelling with her husband and family to different duty stations in the U.S. for many years. She would have celebrated 63 years of marriage next month. She was also active in the Navy Wives Club and many activities for and with her children.
She was predeceased by her parents; son, Craig Henry; sisters, Virginia Partridge of North Carolina, and Renee Jo Pease of Detroit, Mich.
Alberta is survived by husband, Henry S. Cope of Dresden; daughters, Derry Ann Whittiker, and Laurie Jo Alexander of Croyden, Penn.; sons, James David of Bristol, Penn., Christopher Mark of Dresden, and Andrew Wade of Wiscasset; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sisters, Judith R. Kenney of Woolwich, and Denise Miller of Anchorage, Alaska.
There will be no visiting hours. Alberta’s ashes will be interred in the Riverside Cemetery Day’s Ferry, Woolwich at a later date.
