Allan R. Jones, 76, formerly of Nobleboro, passed away on Aug. 21, in St. James City, Fla., with his family and friends by his side, after battling with leukemia for several years.
He was born in New York City on March 31, 1939, the son of Alfred and Anna (Cerni) Jones. He moved to Paramus, N.J. as a child and was a resident there and raised a family, until moving to Nobleboro in the late 70s, with wife, Diane. He took a job with Bath Iron Works and worked there for over 20 years, until his retirement.
Al was a volunteer fireman for most of his adult life both in New Jersey and Maine, serving as chief for several years in both states. He and his wife Diane enjoyed living on Pemaquid Lake and all it had to offer all year round. They were longtime members of the Route 66 Snowmobile Club. Al loved to travel around the U.S. He and Diane volunteered for many years, helping those with special needs through Mobius and the Special Olympics in Maine. After moving to Florida, he and Diane joined their local community church and continued helping others through their mission team.
He is predeceased by his wife of over 55 years, Diane.
He is survived by daughter Debra Lee Sidelinger and husband Paul of Newcastle; son, Gary A. Jones and wife Madeline of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; granddaughter, Teresa M. Viscardi of Coconut Creek, Fla.; brother, Richard Jones and wife Mary Jane from St. James City, Fla.; sister, Lillian Mania and husband John from Budd Lake, N.J.; as well as host of nieces and nephews throughout the country.
Arrangements for a memorial service for both Al and Diane will be announced at a later date.
