Alver Lester “Woody” Wood, 73, of Washington, died Feb. 9 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.
Woody was born May 6, 1938 in Burnham, the son of Erland and Irene Pratt Wood.
As a young boy, he enjoyed playing in the snow with his family, and going ice fishing.
Woody spent his later years living in Whitefield with his good friend and housemate, Dottie, spending time watching old westerns (favorites were Roy Rogers and John Wayne) and listening to old country music favorites, especially Johnny Cash and that “ring of fire.” Woody was a regular at the local movie theater and his favorite McDonald’s, and most of the cashiers at the local stores knew him by sight. He also enjoyed the great outdoors, going camping and fishing in the summertime, and was always willing to stop at just one more lawn sale. Woody made friends easily, as he was a very likeable person.
He is survived by his sister, Verna Pease of Detroit; and nephews, Randall S. Pease of Detroit, Rick Pease of Detroit, and Roderick Pease and wife Judy of Hartland.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Tues., Feb. 21 at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport, with Rev. William Johnson officiating. Spring interment will be in Reynolds Cemetery, Burnham.
