Anne Hoffses Reid, 89, of Augusta, died Oct. 8 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta, following a long illness. She was born in Jefferson on Nov. 29, 1918, the daughter of Harland and Elizabeth (Gould) Hoffses.
She graduated from Cony High School in 1935, and Gates Business School in Augusta.
Anne was employed by the law firm of Locke, Campbell, Reid and Hebert until her marriage to Justice James L. Reid. She then became a homemaker, caring for her extended family. She was a long time member of the Augusta Country Club.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband “Jim”, her son Jeff, and a sister, Alice.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Towne and husband Dr. John Towne of Winslow; son, James L. Reid, Jr. and wife Patti of St. George, Utah; sister, Edith Payson of Union; grandchildren, Allison Towne DiMatteo and husband Chris of Saco, Nathan Hastings Towne of Madison, Wis., Tracy Dulac and husband Greg of South Portland, J. J. Reid, III, and wife Thurlene, of Newville, Penn., and Eric Reid of Rumford, Nicole Jimenez and husband Dave of Sacramento, Cal.; and great-grandchildren, Anna and Simon DiMatteo, Zachary, Kelsey and Jamie Dulac, Justin and Julia Reid, and Jacob and Emily Jimenez.
At her request there will be no services. Family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate her life.
