Anne Reppert Lewis, 88, of Washington, D.C. and longtime summer resident of South Bristol, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 14 at Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center (Hospice) in Arlington, Va. She was born in Boston on June 13, 1925 to George and Mildred Eccles Reppert.
Anne grew up in Montclair, N.J., graduated from Smith College, and married a young naval officer, David Lewis, who had grown up on the same street.
A life-long advocate of the rights of women, Anne was active in community service, serving as president of the Morristown, N.J. Junior League and Chair of the Morristown Neighborhood house.
After raising her children, Anne attended Bucknell College and earned a Master’s degree.
Anne was known for her feisty attitude and wry sense of humor. She loved playing tennis, reading, and attending Maine State Theatre in Brunswick.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, David Lewis; and brothers, George Reppert Jr., and James Reppert.
She is survived by daughter, Laura Lewis of Arlington, Va.; sons, Charles Lewis of San Francisco, Cal., and David Lewis Jr. of Pleasant Hill, Cal.; grandson, Marshall Lewis; and granddaughter, Julia Lewis.
