Annie E. Chase, 87, of Somerville, died April 5 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta after an extended illness. She was born in Somerville on June 12, 1927, the daughter of Clifton Peaslee and Lucy (Hisler) Peaslee.
Annie worked at Augusta Mental Health Institute for several years prior to her marriage. After her marriage, she became a full time homemaker and, with the help of her loving husband, raised seven children.
Annie immensely enjoyed drawing pictures, writing, baking, gardening, and visiting with her family and friends. These were just some of her passions. She had a tremendous love for all animals, especially her beagle “Buckshot” and rabbit “Snowball.” She did not have a lot of nice material things because she was always more interested in giving to others than receiving. It was very important to her to help others whenever possible and truly cherished their friendship. She had a big heart. She lived a modest but fulfilling life. She was a wonderful mother and will be truly missed by her family.
Annie was predeceased by her husband, Owen Chase; son, Dana Chase; one brother; and one sister.
She is survived by daughters, Diane Bailey and husband Norman of Vassalboro, and Darlene Leigh and husband James of Coopers Mills; sons, Dennis Chase and wife Marina of Windsor, David Chase, Don Chase and wife Delta, and Delbert Chase of Somerville; two brothers; three sisters; grandchildren, Scott Bailey, Traci Leigh, JR Leigh; Dana Chase Jr., Trisha Barnes, Felisha Chase, Natasha Littlefield, Ricky Chase, and Danny Cseak; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no visiting hours planned. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sun., May 17, Sand Hill Cemetery in Somerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330.
