Beatrice Hazel Mathieson Mulligan, 89, of Trumbull, Conn., passed away Sept. 10 at her home. She was the devoted wife of the late James E. Mulligan. Born in Washington D.C. she has been a Trumbull resident for the past 43 years.
In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Mulligan was the director of many church choirs and always loved music. A wonderful Sunday school teacher, she welcomed many of her students into her home and kept in touch with her girls. She had a great heart for animals and was a commercial artist as well as a painter.
Hazel spent all her summers on the family island in Maine. She was much beloved as the choir director of Bunker Hill Baptist Church in Jefferson. She and the organist, Mark Johnston, started the first choir and Hazel served for many, many years.
In addition to her husband, Beatrice was predeceased by brothers, Raymond and George.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Rev. James E. Mulligan III, and Matthew Craig Mulligan and wife Rose Marie; grandchildren, James Vincent, Mark and partner Alex Hindley, Matthew Craig Jr., and Ashton Michael; nephews, Greg, Raymond, Sean, and David; and nieces, Lynn and Kathleen.
Friends may greet her family 9-11 a.m., Tues., Sept. 16 in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, 4 Gorham Place (corner of Main Street and Gorham Place), Trumbull, Conn. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds.
