Bernardo “Ben” Rotondo, 77, of Waldoboro, passed away Dec. 9 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta with his family by his side. Bernardo was born in Monopoli, Bari, Italy on May 24, 1934. Bernardo married Dorothy Olenhaus on May 28, 1966.
In 1962, Ben moved from Italy to the United States and relocated to Jersey City, N.J. In 2005, he and his beloved wife Dorothy settled in Union Beach, N.J. In 2010 he moved in with his son Vincenzo Rotondo of Waldoboro for medical reasons. Ben was a retired construction worker for the Hudson County, N.J. Local #325 (formerly Local #21), Laborers International Union of North America.
He was predeceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Rosa Finnelli Rotondo.
Ben is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 45 years, Dorothy Olenhaus Rotondo of Union Beach, N.J.; loving children, Vincenzo Rotondo of Waldoboro, Matthew Rotondo of Union Beach, N.J., Christopher Rotondo of Bayonne, N.J., and Janine Novrit and husband Victor of Hazlet, N.J.; cherished grandchildren, Loren Ranero of Hazlet, N.J., Gavin Novrit of Hazlet, N.J., Mason Novrit of Hazlet, N.J., Zoey Proctor of Rockland, Keeleigh Weaver of Rockland, and Ryker Weaver of Rockland; special caregiver, Jerome Cushing of Waldoboro; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation and prayer service was held Dec. 14 at the Shore Point Funeral Home in Hazlet, N.J. and interment was Dec. 15 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Keyport, N.J.
