Beulah Beatrice “Bea” Farnsworth Shenton, 94, died at her son Keith’s home in Charleston, S.C. on Sept. 6.
Bea (never a great fan of her given name, Beulah) was born on June 2, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio to Leonard Ellsworth Farnsworth and Beulah Beatrice Case. She was the second of four siblings, Leonard, John, and Kathleen, all since deceased.
After graduating from high school in Grove City, Ohio, she moved to San Antonio, Tex. to join the war effort. There, she met her future husband, Kenneth Calder Shenton, a captain and navigation instructor in the Army Air Corps. They were married at Randolph Field on Feb. 21, 1945. The Shentons moved to Avon, Conn. later that year, where they went on to have three sons, Keith, John, and Bill. They moved to Canton, Conn. in 1960, and upon Ken’s retirement in 1979, moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., their current home.
Bea and her family spent their summers at “Dridoc,” in Christmas Cove.
Bea was an avid golfer, and was an active member at the Avon Country Club in Connecticut, Wawenock Golf Club in Walpole, and Indigo Lakes Country Club in Florida. An expert dancer, she never missed an opportunity to hit the dance floor. She also loved to travel and entertain, and was renowned for her wonderful cocktail parties. The most important thing in Bea’s life, though, was always her family.
She is survived by her sons; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Sandra, Nathaniel, Sarah, Kara, Christopher, and William; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Bea’s life will be held in the summer of 2016.
Donations in her honor may be made to the Wawenock Golf Club, 685 State Route 129, Walpole, ME 04573; or the Union Congregational Church, P.O. Box 59, South Bristol, ME 04568.
