Beverly Ann DeCoster, 82, of Waldoboro, formerly of Holliston, Mass., died Sept. 30 at her daughter’s home in Chelmsford, Mass. with her family and friends around her.
Bev was born in Concord, Mass. on July 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Herbert Gifford Wood and Marion Vega (Friberg) Wood. Growing up in Waltham, Bev attended local schools and was a graduate of Waltham High School in the class of 1953.
After school Bev worked as a bookkeeper the following four years. She married the love of her life Wallace DeCoster in 1957 and the two lived in Holliston, Mass. for 39 years raising their family. She continued to work until 1960 and then she stopped work to raise their children and care for the family. She went back to work in 1969 as a school bus driver. She worked as a bus driver in Holliston for 26 years until she retired in 1996. She was well loved and admired by her family, friends and all of her students on the bus.
She enjoyed hours building her puzzles, watching Westerns like The Virginian, and many Gene Autry and Roy Rogers movies. She also enjoyed reading Archie comics. She was a great cook and whenever anyone wanted something, she made it.
Bev was described by her children as the best mom that anyone could ever have. She was a woman of great compassion. She was a person who would give her own shirt off her back to help anyone in need. She was the one in the family that held them together. Bev took care of everyone.
Bev was predeceased by son-in-law, Steven Pancygrau.
Bev is survived by son, Billy DeCoster and wife Denise of Madison, Ala.; daughter, Robin Pancygrau of Chelmsford, Mass.; grandchildren; Justin, Ryan, Samantha, Tyler, Jillian, and Henry; brother, Gordon Wood and wife Louise of Providence, R.I.; and faithful four-legged companion, Zoey.
A time of visitation and remembrance will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 5 at Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford, Mass. and a mass of thanksgiving and celebration will be held at 10 a.m., Sat., Oct. 7 at St. Paul’s Chapel, 1055 Dutch Neck Rd., Waldoboro. Interment will be held following the service at Dutch Neck Cemetery in Waldoboro.
