C. Charles Ashton, 69, of Wiscasset, died Dec. 18 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in West Newfield on Nov. 13, 1945, a son of Arthur and Kathleen (Reed) Ashton. He graduated from Morse High School in Bath, Class of 1965 and later that year married Gloria Pinkham on Oct. 17.
He was self-employed as a carpenter straight out of high school and then worked for Hyde Windless in Bath as a machinist. In the early 1980s he co-owned and operated a fishing vessel The Huntress based out of Small Point. From 1989 to 1995 he was employed at Bath Iron Works as an insulator. He later owned and operated his lobster boat Top Notch where he fished the Sheepscot River out of Wiscasset. He also enjoyed working at Mechanical Applications in Wiscasset as a machinist. Charlie retired in 2008, selling his lobster business to his son Terry.
Charlie’s greatest pleasures were fishing and hunting with family and friends throughout the years. Recently he enjoyed time spent with his dog Sugar, his loyal sidekick, watching the many species of birds from his newly built woodshed.
