Catherine “Kitty” A. Greenleaf, 95, of Boothbay, died Oct. 23 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor after a period of failing health.
Kitty was born May 13, 1914 in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Mathew and Nora Murphy Carroll, graduating from Commerce High in Worcester.
She worked at Filenes until WWII, when she began employment the Bradley Field in Connecticut, where she met Merle F. Greenleaf. In 1946 they were married and moved to a converted school house on Rt. 27 in Boothbay, which would become their home for over 50 years.
She was an avid follower of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, gardening, camping, and traveling to Florida for the winters. Catherine was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace.
Kitty was predeceased by her husband Merle Greenleaf in 2001.
Survivors include her son, James M. Greenleaf and wife Brooke of Boothbay; daughter, Eleanor A. Mavodones of Westbrook; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Josophine Perkins of Worcester, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews, including Wesley Day of Des Moines, Ia.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs. Oct. 29 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m., Fri., Oct. 30 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Boothbay Harbor.
