Charlotte Lee Luttrell Spears, of Rochester, N.Y., passed away Feb. 16 at age 95.
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Charlotte was a joy in the lives of many. A 1942 graduate of William Smith College, she served for three years during WWII with the American Red Cross. She landed in France in 1943, and followed the U.S. Army as they fought to Berlin.
She married Robert Spears on June 16, 1947 in Mayville, N.Y. They were married for 60 years, moving to parishes in Auburn, N.Y.; New York City; Princeton, N.J.; and Kansas City, Mo. before Robert was elected Episcopal Bishop of Rochester in 1970. Charlotte and Bob spent many happy summers at their home in Medomak. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and loving family.
She was predeceased by her husband, the Rt. Rev. Robert R. Spears, Jr., former Episcopal Bishop of Rochester.
She is survived by daughter, Deborah Wing Takakuwa (James) of Hawaii; sons, Robert R. Spears III (Susan) of California, and Gregory L. Spears (Laurie Chamlin) of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Zoe, Michael, and Genevieve; brother, Robert Luttrell (Roberta) of New York; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 21 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Rochester, N.Y.
