Chester Louis Collamore, 70, of Knox, passed away on March 9 at Togus VA hospital in Augusta after an extended illness. He was born in Waldoboro on June 30, 1945 to Harold A. and Frances M. (Poland) Collamore.
“Chet” grew up in Medomak and graduated from Lincoln Academy, class of 1963. At a young age, he was drawn to the ocean. After graduating, he went lobstering and clamming before enlisting in the Navy. After returning home, he worked at Fuller Shipyard in East Boothbay.
He was a self-taught musician with hobbies including hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed camping, guns, archery, local stock car racing, airplanes, automobiles and anything to do with the outdoors. He could often be found toting around his Martin D-35 guitar and wearing his cowboy hat and cowboy boots either at a bluegrass festival, dance or anywhere there was live country western music being played.
Chester was predeceased by his parents; and brother, James Collamore.
He is survived by son, Normand Chester Collamore of Friendship; brother, Brian and Shelley Collamore of Waldoboro; sister, Eunice and Bruce Gray of Bremen; nephews, Toby Harris, Todd Harris, Corey Poland, Brandon Demmons, Bryce Collamore and Brett Collamore; nieces, Holly Foster and Bobbie McGraw; and mother of his son, Joyce Richards of Friendship. He will also be missed by his close friend, Sarah Poland.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
