Christopher W. Esancy, 55, of Nobleboro, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack, on the morning of March 22 at Miles Memorial Hospital, after being stricken earlier while attending church in Damariscotta.
The son of William B. and Joanne (Chaples) Esancy, Chris was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Bangor. Following his graduation from New Bedford High School, Chris attended four years at what is now the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. He later continued his education in real estate appraisal. After many years in food service sales, Chris had recently begun his own business, carefully restoring and painting houses. He put a lot of himself into his projects and enjoyed the peace and challenge of working with his hands.
Chris loved his family with all of his heart, avidly supporting his children in their sports, scouting, church, and musical endeavors. Most especially, he loved basketball, serving as a coach and referee for many of their teams. Chris also cared deeply about his church family and the life of Second Congregational Church in Newcastle, where he had just finished a term of service on the Board of Trustees. Throughout his life, Chris enjoyed outdoor adventures with friends and family – sailing, canoeing, hiking, camping, and fishing, often exploring new destinations. In January, he was able to participate in one of the most fulfilling experiences of his life, serving on a mission team that traveled to a small Honduran village to build a home for a family in great need.
He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew D. Esancy; and grandparents, Lloyd and Helen Chaples of Hudson and Walter and Verna Esancy of Augusta.
He leaves his parents, William and Joanne of Jefferson; wife, Laurie A. Chandler of Damariscotta; children, Andrew L. and Charlotte A. Esancy of Damariscotta; brothers, Brent W. Esancy of Presque Isle, and James F. Esancy and wife Michelle of Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law, Jane E. Beadnell of Salenville, Ohio; step-daughter, Megan R. Chandler of Damariscotta; step-son, Taylor B. Chandler of Plainview, Va., as well as many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Fri., March 27, at the Second Congregational Church, Newcastle, with Rev. Ken Dale officiating.
If desired, donations may be made in Chris’s memory to the Second Congregational Church UCC, P.O. Box 243, Newcastle, ME 04553. Through the work of the Honduras Partnership Committee of the UCC, the gifts will help to build another home in the Honduran mountains.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
