Clifton Arthur Ennis, 83, of Windsor, died April 9 at MaineGeneral Hospital after a long illness, surrounded by family.
Cliff was born on Aug. 13, 1932 in Littleton, N.H., the son of Arthur and Lillian Ennis (both deceased in 1956).
He graduated from Littleton High School in 1950. In January of 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force with many duty assignments, both in the U.S. and overseas. Tours of duty included the Philippines and Vietnam. He retired in 1972 with the rank of Tech Sgt. In 1969 Cliff was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and in 1970 was awarded the Bronze Star for Service in The Republic of Vietnam.
In July of 1972 Cliff joined the newly formed VA Police Department at the Veterans Affairs Regional Office and Medical Center at Togus where he spent the next 23 years, retiring in 1995. While assigned at Togus he was selected as employee of the year in 1994. Upon his retirement he resided at his home in Windsor.
In 1962 Cliff married Rose Blouin of Newmarket, N.H. and together they raised three lovely daughters whom he loved dearly: Diane Johnson, Joanne Butler, and Noleta Demmons.
In his earlier years, Cliff enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, as well as collecting firearms. In his later years he spent a lot of time in his hobby shop which he called his “escape hatch.” Cliff was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved his country and was proud of his military service and his wonderful family.
Cliff was predeceased by his wife Rose in 2001; daughter, Joanne in 1983; and sister, Carlene Locke of Bath, N.H. in 2009.
Cliff is survived by daughters, Diane Johnson and husband Stephen of Somersworth, N.H., and Noleta Demmons and husband Ralph of Rockland; grandsons, Stephen Johnson Jr. and wife Michaela of King George, Va., Scott Johnson of Somersworth, N.H., Shawn Johnson and wife Melissa, also of Somersworth, N.H.; granddaughter, Morgan McKee and husband Randy of Owls Head; great-grandsons, Shawn Johnson Jr., and Ethan Johnson, both of Somersworth, N.H.; and great-granddaughters, Sidney Johnson of King George, Va., and Ashlyn McKee of Owls Head.
For those wishing to pay their respects or to say goodbye, the interment will be held at 12 p.m., Fri., April 29 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta at the Chapel.
