Clifton Carr Babbidge passed away on Aug. 29 at Crawford Commons in Union. He was born June 6, 1925 in Islesboro to Alice and Warren Babbidge.
He grew up on Islesboro where he attended school. Then he enlisted in the Army. Clifton served in the 13th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during WWII in France. Upon his honorable discharge he settled in the Bath-Wiscasset area. He went to school for refrigeration and then went to work at the Bath Iron Works as a certified burner until he retired after 37 years. For many years he dug worms and lobster fished in the Sheepscot River.
He is survived by daughters, Diane Baldwin and husband James of Wiscasset, and Doreen Babbidge of Bath; sons, Galen Babbidge and wife Cathy of Twin Lakes, Mich., and Bruce Babbidge of Bath; sister, Lucille Smith of Bath; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
