Daniel H. Benner, Jr., 64, of Waldoboro, passed away at his home on the evening of Oct. 6. Born in Damariscotta on July 31, 1947, he was the son of Daniel, Sr. and Ella (Willey) Benner.
Dan grew up in New Harbor and attended Bristol schools. After finishing school, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. Upon his return from the war, he went to work as a driver for Harry Crooker in Topsham. He worked several other trucking jobs before going to Florida to work as a cook in a restaurant.
He returned to Maine and lived in Waldoboro where he loved to hunt, fish and spend time outdoors. He also enjoyed working on old cars.
He was predeceased by his father, Daniel Benner, Sr.; siblings, Kenneth Benner, Stuart Benner and Sue Ramsey; and son-in-law, Robbie Alan Flint.
He is survived by his mother of Jefferson; children, Mark Benner Gutek of Fla., April Simmons of Waldoboro, and Renee Flint of Waldoboro; brothers and sisters, Jimmy and wife Millie of Waldoboro, Merrill and wife Roberta of Waldoboro, Paul Benner of Waldoboro, Marilyn Bredeau of Waldoboro, June Benner of Damariscotta and Marcia Benner of Waldoboro; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his long-time companion, Betty Dyment of Waldoboro.
At Dan’s request, there will be no service. He will be laid to rest privately in the New Harbor Cemetery.
