David T. Gill, 82, of Newcastle, died Feb. 26 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
David was born on July 22, 1927 in Griswold, Conn. to Lewis A. and Sarah (Geer) Gill. On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Valerie Day Morris of New Haven, Conn.
David grew up in Jewett City, Conn. and served as a radar operator for a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier from July 1944 to July 1946. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Bacteriology and Animal Diseases. David spent nine years working at the Connecticut Department of Agriculture where he was Division Chief of Animal Diseases. Next, Mr. Gill worked as a quality control fieldman for milk marketing cooperatives in New England for 15 years.
David retired in 1990 from Agri-Mark, Inc. of Methuen, Mass. after serving 14 years as both Membership Manager and Sr. Vice President of Membership Services. David had a passion for gardening, reading and fishing.
David and his wife resided in Harwinton, Conn. for 14 years; in East Montpelier, Vt. from 1973 1976 and in West Newbury, Mass. for 35 years before settling in Newcastle in 2002.
David was predeceased by sisters, Sarah Robinson, Lois Proulx, Gloriana Goodenough; and brothers, Lewis Gill, Donald Gill and Chester Gill.
David is survived by his wife, Valerie of Newcastle; daughters, Diana and Ted Stefanik of Harvard, Mass., Susan and Alden Sproul of Bristol, Sarah and Steve Burnette of Kennebunkport, and Martha and Glenn Miller of Merrimac, Mass.; sister, Ruth DuPont of Litchfield, Conn.; and brother, Ardian C. Gill of New York City and Litchfield, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
There are no calling hours. Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
