Dorothy B. Dimitre, 85, passed away at the Sussman House, Rockport, in the care of hospice and surrounded by her family on July 9.
Dorothy was born in Portland on Oct. 21, 1930 to Louis and Helena (True) Booth. Her time growing up was spent in the Northeast. Dorothy attended the University of Maine at Orono and received a degree in education. She married Lawrence Dimitre on April 11, 1953.
Together Dorothy and Lawrence raised six children, Anne Michelle, Michael Lawrence, Sandra Louise, Mary Katherine, Denise Dorothy and Stephanie Jean. They lived in Bar Mills for 31 years. There she enjoyed supporting her children as they participated in band and chorus concerts, 4-H, and dance. She enthusiastically cheered them on for all their sporting events, field hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, track and swimming.
Dorothy was an active member and leader in the Hollis Lioness Club and a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church. When Lawrence retired from S. D. Warren Company in Westbrook, they began traveling around the U.S. camping and visiting their children and grandchildren.
In 1994 they moved to Waldoboro and continued to travel around the country with their dogs. When home, they attended St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle. Dorothy enjoyed knitting, quilting and reading. She always looked forward to weekly lunches with her sister, Louise, visits with her grandchildren and attending their school activities and sports. Her beloved dogs kept her company as she knitted colorful socks for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence; sister, Louise Works; children, Anne Jones and husband Tom, Michael Dimitre and wife Lois, Sandra Dunn and husband Dennis, Kathy Ludwig and husband Wayne, Denise Dimitre, and Stephanie Albert and husband Chris; grandchildren, Aaron Jones and wife Laura, Stephen Jones, Alysn Ludwig, Micha Ludwig, Priscilla Dimitre, Dale Dunn and wife Sara, Skyler Albert, and Quinn Albert; and great-grandchildren, Jack Jones and Cooper Jones.
