Dorothy Clark Jordan, 83, of Warren, passed away March 16 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, following a long illness.
Mrs. Jordan was born May 16, 1923 in Livermore Falls, the daughter of John and Susie Perry Clark.
She graduated from Livermore Falls High School, class of 1941, and attended Eastern Nazarene College.
She married Rev. Vernon Jordan on Feb. 12, 1943.
Mrs. Jordan worked at various jobs while her husband was in college. During this time, two daughters were born to the couple, Elaine and Susan. The family later moved to North Waldoboro.
Dorothy began teaching school in Warren in 1956. Over the next 30 years she taught in Warren, Whitefield and Friendship. During these years, Dorothy finished three years of college and graduated with honors from the University of Maine. She enjoyed teaching and was nominated Teacher of the Year in 1974 and was listed as one of the top 10 teachers in Maine.
After retiring from teaching, she painted a number of oil paintings and won blue ribbons at several fairs. At one time, several of her paintings were on display at the State House in Augusta and in Warren Library.
An active member of the Warren Baptist Church, she served on the diaconate, youth group leader, fireside couples group, and the missionary society.
She also enjoyed designing homes, especially kitchens. The Jordans’ own kitchen, which she designed, was featured in the Country Women Magazine. She was a member of Taste of Home Magazine field staff for many years.
What Dorothy enjoyed most was her family and friends, and helping others.
She is predeceased by a grandson, Richard Wheeler; and twin brother, Howard Clark, and brother, Arthur Clark.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Rev. Vernon Jordan of Warren; daughters, Elaine Chandler and husband Rev. Walden Chandler of St. George, and Susan Wilkes and husband Keith of Brunswick; grandchildren, Derick Mallard and companion Jean Rice of Lisbon Falls, Amy Wheeler of China, Heather Wilkes of Bowdoinham, and Robert Wilkes and wife Lorinda of Durham; and five great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Tues., March 20 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Celebration of Dorothy’s life 2 p.m., Wed., March 21 at the Warren Baptist Church, with Rev. Meader officiating.
Spring interment will be in Orffs Corner Cemetery, Waldoboro.
