Dorothy E. Parmenter, 92, passed away peacefully at Clipper Harbor Nursing Home in Portsmouth, N.H., on Aug. 26.
She was born on June 25, 1921, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of the late Albert Joseph Gosselin and Ethel Taylor Gosselin Reed. She grew up between Haverhill, Mass. and Portland, and was a graduate of the Deering High School.
In 1939 she and her husband Winfred moved to Boothbay Harbor. She was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed doing artwork. Dorothy and Winfred loved to travel, taking extensive excursions throughout the U.S., into Canada, and spent several months traveling throughout Mexico. After Winfred died, Dorothy continued to travel and enjoyed many parts of Europe, Germany, Japan, and Vietnam. One of her favorite trips was to China, where she was able to walk along the Great Wall.
When Dorothy was in her 50s, she decided to go back to a college and received a degree in art history. She was extremely proud of this accomplishment. She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church and of the VFW Auxiliary.
