Dorothy M. Currier, nee Smith, 104, passed away Nov. 17 at Elyria Wesleyan Village in Elyria, Ohio. Born Dec. 9, 1904 in Hallowell, Dorothy lived most of her life in Maine, residing in Waterville, Pemaquid Beach, and Augusta. She moved to Elyria, Ohio in October of 2000.
After graduating from Hallowell High School, Dorothy worked as a telephone operator for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company for 37 years and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a longtime member of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Hallowell.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, reading and knitting, and made numerous pairs of mittens and blankets for those in need.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Martha Smith; husband Linwood F. Currier; and sisters, Arlene Hayes and Louise Lailer.
Survivors include son William F. Currier of Amherst, Ohio and daughter-in-law Kay Currier; grandchildren Julie Rodriguez and Jeffrey S. Currier; great-grandchildren Erica Rodriguez, Emily Rodriguez and William S. Currier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service, 11 a.m., Sat., Dec. 5 at the Elyria Weslyan Village in the chapel with the Reverend Beth McKee officiating. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
Local services are being provided by Garland-Misencik Funeral Home.
Burial services will be handled by the Plummer Funeral Home in Augusta, and will be announced at a later date.
