Dr. Theodore Robert Fairbank Wright, 86, died in Charlottesville, Va., on Oct. 15.
Ted was born in Kodaikanal, Southern India on April 10, 1928, to the Reverend Horace and Adelaide Wright. Ted was educated at Woodstock School in northern India, Mount Hermon School (high school class of 1945), and Princeton University, A.B. Biology, Class of 1949. He earned an M.A. from Wesleyan University in June 1954 and a Ph.D. from Yale University in June 1959. From 1959-1965 Ted was an Assistant Professor of Biology at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. and spent the remainder of his career as a tenured Professor of Biology at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. from 1965 until his retirement in 1995.
Ted served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Technician from 1950 to 1952.
Ted spent many happy summers at Wright’s Wroost, his home in Jefferson.
He was married to Eileen Yongen Wright from 1951 until her death in 2002.
He was predeceased by sisters, Alice Conkey and Mary Rainey.
He is survived by sister, Lydia Wright Beaumont of Bethlehem, Penn.; and 10 nieces.
