Dwight Crittenden Sewell, 92, died June 13 in Florida. Dwight was born Dec. 9, 1923 in Scarborough to Albert G. Sewell and Florence Nelson Sewell. As a child the family moved to Waldoboro. He graduated from Waldoboro High School in the class of 1943. After graduation he immediately joined the Navy and fought during WWII.
On Sept. 25, 1944 he married Pauline Creamer.
After the war he worked as a poultry farmer and also worked for Genthner’s Oil Service and Garage. He then became a carpenter for the next 30 years.
Dwight and Pauline started going to Florida for the winters in the early 1970s and moved there full time in 2008. He enjoyed working and gardening.
Dwight was a member of the Odd Fellows in Waldoboro and the Charles C. Lilly American Legion Post #149 in Waldoboro.
He was predeceased by parents; wife, Pauline; and five siblings.
He is survived by sons, Bruce Sewell and wife Marilyn, and Eric Sewell and wife Diana, all of Warren; daughter, Joan Robichaud of Rockland; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service to celebrate Dwight’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Sat., Sept. 3 at the Shuman Cemetery, Rt. 220 in Waldoboro.
