Earle A. Thompson, 71, passed away on March 3 at his home, following a long illness.
Born July 17, 1935 in Machias, he was the son of Earle and Helen Renshaw Thompson.
Educated in Jonesport, he was a 1953 graduate of Jonesport High School.
As a young boy, Mr. Thompson sang in the National Boy’s Choir.
For over 20 years, Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed at several ports throughout the world. Following his retirement, he was employed at a variety of occupations.
An avid outdoorsmen, he enjoyed the water, traveling, camping, bird watching, and bird feeding. He also took great pleasure in his pets, a cat and two dogs. He particularly enjoyed a trip to Alaska.
Mr. Thompson was a Cub Scout Leader at the Latter Day Saints Church in Rockport. He was an avid sports fan, and also enjoyed watching Channel 6 News where his son once worked. He was a member of the American Legion in Waldoboro.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 21 years, Beverly A. Thompson of Waldoboro; son, David Thompson and wife Angie of Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Becky Reardon and husband David of Freeport, and Toby Curtis of Thomaston; special stepson, John Colson and wife Kristen of Orem, Ut.; grandchildren, Alex Reardon of Freeport, and Jonathan, Christopher, Adam, and Micaela Colson, and Trevor Curtis; niece, Erica Hawes and husband Craig “Buddy” of Union; great-nieces, Ashley and Olivia Hawes; great-nephew, Justin Hawes; sisters-in-law Kay Bendard and husband Paul of Midolopian, Tex., Beverly Nagy and Lynne Ellis, both of New Hampshire; and several good friends and neighbors.
Family and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m., Wed., March 7 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
