Eduard Arthur Ziegenhagen died April 2. He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on July 4, 1935, to Dorothea Lisow Ziegenhagen and Arthur Eduard Ziegenhagen and grew up in Michigan and Wisconsin.
Eduard received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he enjoyed belonging to Alpha Delta Phi. He earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana, in 1961.
Eduard taught as a professor in the political science department at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., and the State University of New York at Binghamton, N.Y., where he chaired the department. He was the author of eight books.
When not working with his international graduate students and publishing, he enjoyed his home in the woods of Binghamton, N.Y., with his standard poodles, his wife, Nancy, his sons, Arthur and Wolfgang, for 35 years.
Eduard loved working on his antique cars, sailing on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, N.Y., and traveling through his ancestral Germany. In retirement, Eduard especially enjoyed spending time building things with his grandchildren. He also threw himself into the restoration of his 18th century home on the coast of Maine.
Eduard was preceded in death by his son, Arthur.
He is survived by wife, Nancy of New Harbor; son, Wolfgang; daughter-in-law, Suzanne; and beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Harrison, and Olivia, all of Guilford, Conn.
